Admission requirements

Diplomas and Certificates

To be eligible as a prospective Bachelor degree programme student, you must have been awarded a diploma of higher secondary education that is equivalent to Dutch standards. This means:

  • International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB programme)
  • Fachabitur or Abitur (Fachhochschulreife or Allgemeine Hochschulreife)
  • General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) and General Certificate of Education (GCE). Requirements: at least 6 different exam subjects in total. Minimum for the examined subjects is 4 GCSE subjects with grades A*, A, B or C and 2 GCE subjects at A/S Level (no specific grade required). A/S Level means advanced subsidiary level (previously advanced supplementary level)
  • Any equivalent education (to be compared by our institution).

Language requirements

For the English taught programmes, the minimum English language proficiency required is explained in the following table. You must substantiate your level of English-language proficiency by submitting evidence in the form of a language test result pertaining to one of the below-mentioned courses.

Exemptions

Some applicants can be exempted from submitting the language proficiency test results:

  • Applicants with a Dutch HAVO / VWO diploma
  • Applicants who have passed one of the secondary education exams (including English as part of the curriculum) as mentioned in the diploma list as published on the website of the code of conduct
  • Applicants who have followed their previous education in English

The level of English proficiency must always meet the entry requirements for the chosen Fontys course. Fontys always reserves the right to require a language proficiency test for all categories of applicants.
